Q: WHICH ONE IS LOST AND WHICH ONE IS FOUND?
A: Hengh.
Q: HOW DID YOU GUYS MEET?
A: George replies, "We met at a picnic in my parents' backyard at the age of fourteen. It was my parents' house and I was their son, so I was there. My parents invited Michael's mother and she brought him because he is her son and then he was there and so we met. And I said, 'Hey, do you play the guitar?' And he said, 'Yup.' And he said, 'Hey, do you play the piano?' And I said, 'Yup.' And so we started playing music together at the age of fourteen so we have been playing together fo[u]r years."
Q: HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO PLAY CHRISTIAN MUSIC?
A: Well, we never really did "decide" that. We happened to start playing together and then we began writing our own songs to play. It just happens that our songs are informed by a relationship with God in Christ. And, so, they are what people call "Christian songs." We never really sat down and said, "Hey, let's play Christian music!" It is just what comes out.
In fact, we never even decided to do this full time until relatively recently. We played together in high school and had the chance to play at a local camp (ask Michael about Camp Pioneer sometime) and at our church and some other local churches. We traveled a bit during high school to far-flung areas like Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and NYC to promote the camp at concerts and then we stopped singing together when Michael went to college and George worked in restaurants and played in various other bands. After the bicycle trip (see below) George went to college and Michael went back to work in NYC. People would call us occasionally to come to their towns to play concerts. We found it fun, so we did. After some time we realized we were playing quite a bit, and we noticed people were buying the tapes we recorded. So, we just kept playing and accepting invitations to give concerts. All this time we were living in different cities and traveling separately to the concerts where we would meet up and play and then go home. In the fall of 1991 we both moved to Los Angeles (because we could) and began playing concerts full time, trying to make a living at it. Now, we are sometimes stunned to think we have been playing music for a living all this time.

A: This fine website is designed and maintained by Electric Pulp. To contact them, e-mail electric@electricpulp.com or visit their site at www.electricpulp.com.

A: Yes. Our songs are registered with CCLI. If you have a license with them, just include the name of the LOST AND FOUND songs you use in your report to CCLI. Please use this method if you reprint our songs for worship, songbooks, overheads and anything printed like that. To record a LOST AND FOUND song, please call us at 419/897-9792..
Q: WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET MY LOCAL RADIO STATION TO PLAY YOUR SONGS?
A: Maybe re-record them? If you've heard our music before, you know it's not really radio friendly, and we're really okay with that. Really. We do not aim to be radio friendly, so we do not find it disappointing that the radio is not our friend. However, there are some loose canons who are willing to play music on their radio stations, and we salute them. But, for the most part, no one in radio is interested in something that sounds so, oh what's the word? Oh, I know: "different."
Q: DID YOU REALLY RIDE BICYCLES AROUND THE COUNTRY?
A: Yes, we did. We left from Niagara Falls, Ontario in September 1986 and returned there in August of 1987. During the trip we rode basically from New York to St. Louis to Miami to San Diego to Seattle and back to New York. It took us 340 days and we played 270 concerts at schools, churches, camps, or any place that would have us. We stayed with families 300 nights and in hotels the other 30. One thing about us: we do not camp. (It's just our nature.) We made the trip without ever missing a concert date and without any support vehicle following us or leading us. We supported ourselves through the sale of our first record (vinyl only at the time). Lots of days we would bungee-cord the records to our bikes and bring them along to the gigs to offer for sale. It was an incredible experience to say the least. If you're interested in the whole story (with illustrations), you can find us retelling the highpoints of our journey in true comic style on the special DVD included in our boxed set, "LOST AND FOUND: The Early Years."
Q: DO YOU WANT TO EAT DINNER BEFORE THE CONCERT?
A: No. But thank you for asking.
Q: DO YOU HAVE ANY FORMAL MUSICAL TRAINING?
A: George took piano lessons from age five to age fifteen. George took bass (upright) lessons for eight years. George took organ lessons for two years. George took tuba lessons for one year. Michael took guitar lessons for about five years. Michael took piano lessons for three years..
Q: WHEN CAN WE EXPECT A NEW ALBUM?
A:Surprisingly, the new album will be the old albums. We have an "Early Years Box Set" now available which includes all the old tapes, plus a DVD of us telling the story of our Bike Trip, plus all sorts of bonus tracks and a never-before-seen video.
Q: IS THAT YOUR REAL HAIR?
A: George: Yes.
Michael: Yes.
Q: WHY DO YOU GUYS SOMETIMES PAINT YOUR NAILS?
A: It changes the color of them.
Q: WHAT IS COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL?
A: Compassion International is a Christian child development organization that enables people like any of us to "sponsor" a child in a developing country. By sponsoring a child, for just $32 per month, you can help provide that child with food, clothing, health care and education in addition ensuring that the child will hear the Good News of God's love in Christ. It is an awesome program and opportunity to save someone's life and to change your own.
We promote Compassion because we have seen first-hand the good work that they
do around the world. We have met the child that George sponsors in Peru, the
child Michael sponsors in India and the child that we sponsor as a group in
India too. You can access Compassion's web site at www.compassion.com or call them
at 1-800-336-7676. Please consider sponsoring a child through Compassion. And
tell them LOST AND FOUND sent you.
Q: WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
A: Generally we like singer-songwriters. Lately it seems that our CD player in the van is usually playing the CD of someone we know. We are fortunate in receiving lots of CDs from friends, and those are the most fun to listen to.
Q: WHAT KIND OF GUITAR AND KEYBOARD DO YOU PLAY?
A: Michael plays a Collings. He uses three little foot-pedal thingies. (That's technical jargon.) Two are cheap EQ boxes: one to boost the volume on the frequent massive guitar solos, and one to EQ out certain offensive frequencies that howl in different rooms, the third one is a tuner, for purposes of tuning. George plays a Kurzweil PC-88, or whatever the hosts can supply that is kind of close to that. (The "88" is the number of keys; the "PC" stands for Piano: Close-enough.)
Q: ARE YOU GUYS MARRIED?
A: No, we are not. But we get along okay, and George is married to his wife, Cris. They were married on September 15, 1990 in Oregon, Ohio. They have two daughters: Eleanor, who was born in the summer of 1994, and Lillian, who was born in December of 1998.
Q: HOW CAN I FIND OUT WHEN LOST AND FOUND IS IN MY AREA?
A: Look at the tour schedule page of this web site. Or, even better, send us your name and address and we will mail a postcard to your home every time we are near your area. Or, even better yet, on top of joining our mailing list, join the Concert Tracker, for email updates on concerts in your area. Be sure to tell your friends all over the country when we are coming to their areas too, ok?
Q: HOW CAN I SUBMIT QUESTIONS TO THIS LIST OF FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS?
A: That's an appropriate question, and frequently asked; funny you should ask. Send us an email at hengh@speedwood.com with any questions you might have.
