JUNE NEWSLETTER

Okay, people. We've got a lot of work to do today, and you're paying for your internet connection. So let's skip the niceties and get right down to business. Before the "regular" newsletter gets underway, you've got three options right up top here.

First: We finally have the interesting facts page for Joel the newest addition to the LOST AND FOUND team.

Second: We finally have the results of the Hansonfan Cookoff.

Third: We went to Germany.

So, after you've seen those three pages, come on back and read on. No, go ahead and go there now. I'll wait. Go on . . .

Okay, and then we got back from Germany and had a little time to readjust from the jetlag. On the 8th, our daughter Eleanor celebrated her 5th birthday. She had bunches of friends over and the party carried a distinctively Hawaiian theme. The girls wore grass skirts, ate sandwiches, and listened to music by the Ventures. Even our dog got in on the action.

Party On!

A Hula Lula!

Do the hula hop.

The next morning I headed to Jackson, Mississippi to meet Michael who had headed for Jackson about a week earlier I think. We saw the most amazing cheerleading team called Champs. They were really good at being thrown into the air and not getting hurt. I suppose that's the key: I mean, anyone can be thrown into the air; it's landing safely what counts. They also led the crowd in doing the motions to our H.O.L.Y. song. I tell you, these girls are dang brave. Also, there in Jackson, we met a fellow named Casey who insisted that I put his picture in the newsletter. Fearing for my safety, and noting that he wore a Hawaiian print in honor of my daughter's birthday, I am now complying.

The next day we flew home and had a few more days to prepare for the big run. It began on the 16th at the Alive Festival in Canal Fulton, Ohio, one of our favorite festivals. The next morning we drove south and made it to Newberry, South Carolina where we saw a familiar sign and had to make the choice once more as to which direction we might take. We had a great time with the Lutheran youth of the South Carolina Synod. They call themselves L.C.Y. However, with their southern accents it sounds like they're saying Elsie Why. We kept asking, "now who is this Elsie Why, anyway?" Where was I? Oh yes, they paid us our usual fee, and we headed further south and west.

So keep your phone turned on.

Decisions, decisions...

Mr. Elsie Why

Well, plus expenses, right?

Nice bag.

Next up was another favorite of ours: The Affirm gathering in Florence, Alabama. For a description of that event you can check out last year's newsletter. We had a most excellent time with those folks, and we even recorded another live album there. Our first live album was called Speedwood One. Our second live album was called Speedwood Two. But our NEW live album will be called Speedwood Three. Clever, eh? We think we got some good recordings and expect to get albums in the hands of people around the first of September. Anyway, at the Affirm event we were treated to a fine rendition of our Tara song by our old friends John and Anna. At some other point, Anna sneaked behind the screen during Slide Girl and took us back to the groovy 60's with her Laugh-In dance.

Then we drove 1,000 miles to Okoboji, Iowa, where we helped celebrate the 50th birthday of the Minneboji event. We met another Anna who has a real talent for using her braid as a propeller.
Now THAT'S a beanie!

All Michael's setting in finally pays off!
From there it was a big drive to Moline, Illinois for a really fun District Gathering of Illinois Lutherans. But not for long. As soon as our concert ended at 11:00 pm, we packed up the van and Pete drove us to Springfield, Missouri. We arrived at 7:00 am and set it all up again at the Missouri District Lutheran Gathering. Our friends, Echelon were there and we spent a few minutes jamming in the key of a minor. Had another great time, but had to leave before it was over to drive all the way to (The) Metroplex.

Though we're not there yet. I'm finishing this writing on the way. Next month I'll let you know how it went. (How's that for a cliffhanger?) Oh yes, I wanted to share one last photo. In one store we visited, if you don't bring food and sawdust with you, then you can't get any wet paint; that's just the way they do things around here.
Well, if you want to paint...

And finally, if you want to see photos I took from the stage this month, you can visit the Photo Phrenzy.

Rocking on,

george
